ABOUT RANC

The Recycling Association of NC (RANC) serves as the state-wide nonprofit trade association for those involved in the metals recycling industry in North Carolina.  The association, which features both public and private businesses, includes scrap recyclers, equipment vendors, and service providers.  RANC aims to provide a means of communication between the association  and all other groups interested in or affected by the metals recycling industry.  In addition, RANC hopes to promote closer cooperation, goodwill, and friendly interaction between its members.

While the association was begun in an attempt to give its members a voice in matters pertaining to materials theft, RANC advocates on behalf of its members on numerous regulatory and legislative issues.  At the heart of RANC's existence is the desire to promote a positive image and perception of the scrap industry.  The association will work hard to promote this positive image through education, outreach and relationship building with legislators, law enforcement, other associations, and the general public.

RANC will help to educate and train its members on current and potential legislation and regulatory issues.  This holds true on local and state levels, as well as nationally through RANC's association with ISRI, the national nonprofit trade association for the recycling industry.

The association is proud of the efforts and results achieved through the hard work of members to date and looks forward to continuing this positive momentum for years to come.

We hope that you will consider joining our association today.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions, concerns, and/or suggestions.

RANC is also proud to be a Corporate Captain
in the NC Association of Chiefs of Police.

Influencing NC Legislation

Materials Theft is a worldwide epidemic and there are many local, state, and federal laws being introduced and passed intended to curb this problem. In North Carolina alone, there have been 3 separate bills passed regarding this issue since 2007. The latest bill (House Bill 199) went into effect on October 1, 2012 and we do not expect this to be the last piece of legislation ever passed in NC regarding this. NC recyclers must make their voices heard. We need to reach out to local law enforcement and legislators, invite them into our businesses, and educate them on all of the positives that our businesses provide. To help us in this fight, we are proud to have teamed up with experienced counsel from the BrooksPierce law firm in Raleigh.

Educating Members and the Public

Through this organization, RANC will help to educate and train its members on the current laws, serve as a liaison between its members, law enforcement, and legislators, and will promote open lines of communication between all members.

RANC recognizes that there are some negative public perceptions towards our industry and this is one of the biggest and most challenging issues we face. We will fight hard to help change this perception. With the same effort we put into educating our members, we will work equally as hard to educate the public on the positive economic and environmental contributions we make.

We aim to make a difference and hope that you will consider joining us today.
